mifa 2020
Back in 2018, fellow illustrator Dave Will had an idea to illustrate all 254 players missing from the Official World Cup Sticker book. He asked the online design community to help out, and over 200 artists, illustrators and designers took part, each one illustrating one or two stickers missing from the book. The project was named MIFA: Missing in (the) Football Album. He collected all of the entries and sold them in a limited edition book, raising around £5,000 for charity. The project was repeated in 2019 for the Women’s World Cup, this time raising about £2500.
During the current COVID-19 pandemic, football has been postponed and one of the many consequences of this is that the charity “Fans Supporting Foodbanks” are suffering. They collect food outside football stadiums on matchdays, with the initiative starting at Anfield and Goodison but now spreading further afield to other football clubs. They estimate that they raise between £5,000 to £10,000 per matchday, so with games currently suspended they have a huge shortfall to make up over the next few months. Therefore this time around the MIFA 2020 project will aim to illustrate over 600 stickers in this year’s Panini Premier League album with every illustrator paying/donating for their selected players.
This time around I’ve donated and selected two players to illustrate, Harry Kane and Jesse Lingard. I believe collectively we’ve raised over £5000 thus far. I was also approached by the social team at Tottenham Hotspurs who wanted to share my Harry Kane illustration, whilst alongside that, I gained approval from Jesse Lingard on his particular piece.
